Odie O'Dool
The Awakening of Odie
Both a potato and a fool, soaked in drool — he dreamt of jewels. The nightshade chained to a peg, who breaks his chain and walks the Shack, the Well, and the S.S. Dream.
Odie O'Dool, both a potato and fool, Soaked in drool, he dreamt of jewels. Ohm the Boo, who had consumed the sky, Whisked away into the potato's mind. Sally the Bovine Queen had seen, the celestial entity pierce Odie's dream.
The Seraph C serenaded a cinderous forest, And surreptitiously, the cindered timber rerendered and flourished.
Elumo of the Smoke, by the Spirit of the Wind, Departed from a Flame, that had overtaken his…
Ida, The Morning Glory, and her beloved Nightshade Orie, released Odie from purgatory, at the climax of their story.
1000 Blue Morpho's, whose wings were laced with signs, Emerged from a single chrysalis, above Odie's innermost eye.
The liana vines Divine, surfaced from the waters in the sky, His left hand seeking Wrath, Her right hand to be Kind. As Divine basked in the Light, Divine divided and multiplied.
Beyond any conceivable path or trail, a solemn tea tree frog inhaled. Along came Gale…
Ohm the Boo went round and round, spiraling, potato bound. Down the hole, and through the void, into the mind of the Nightshade of Joy…
In a daze, a cloudy haze, the morning nightshade arose, and looked at his leg. It had been chained to a peg. A rod in the sod. He thought to himself, how very odd… Confused and disillusioned, the starch was surprised, "Why am I here?" he asked, then closed his weary eyes…
Ohm looked to Odie before looking at the sky, "Look at that…" he thought aloud, so this is what happens when you die… Odie thought he heard his thoughts before, but this thought was surely audible, curious, and pure…
Odie pinched himself, believing he was dreaming. After wincing in pain, he heard a sound he thought was screaming. "Do you hear that?" Whispered Ohm, to the potato Odie O, to which the Morning replied "Ya, let's go!" Without a second thought or remark, Ohm departed from the tubby starch. The nightshade Odie struggled getting to his feet. He kept falling over, but would not concede defeat. Though tired and fat, the potato had faith, "We've gotta make sure that everything's okay…"
The Sun above intensified, with light brighter white than the Seraph's angel eyes. The magnificent luminescence pierced his essence with it's presence. Enveloping Odie was the supernal Ohr, the rays of which, Odie'd never felt before. A chill escaped from Odie's spine, which beckoned his eyes to open up wide… His potato skin began to crisp, growing brittle, as it fried, but Odie dwelt upon the noise he'd heard, concerned it was a cry.
Ohm the Boo felt empathy, for young Odie O'Dool, But deep down he knew that dream of his, was an everlasting fuel. As the potato baked in the unrelenting heat, he looked up to Ohm, exclaiming "oh… don't worry about me!"
The heat was setting in, dizzy… I don't have much time. His vision was getting blurry, but Odie refused to die. Ohm flew towards the abandoned shambles, of the potato shack, when suddenly, a tear was made, and to Odie Ohm snapped back. Their bond was now elastic, a cord kept them together, and with a little practice, Ohm could scout throughout the Never. He beckoned forth to Odie "Believe, and you will break out of that!" slowly reaching out his ghostly arms, and quickly thundered out a clap.
Determination swept over Odie's face, his words were sparks of hope. The starch got on all fours, and burst forth into a jolt! He dug his feet into the Earth, as sweat dripped from his brow, for a fire stoked inside of him, and a wayward wind was found. Amazingly, the chain was shattered, now Odie was free! He tried to recollect the time, he'd last ran into the breeze. The endorphins slowly faded, he gasped and tried to breathe, when Ohm encircled Odie, shouting "all you need, is to believe…"
Sally sat in her ship, watching over Odie from the moon, took the phoenix feather I, and dipped it in a mystical inkwell's pool. She sat within a throne room between the heavens and the clouds, with a doorway to a wondrous machine, that her bull Pepe flies around…
Pepe The Skipper ushered deceased spirits into his ride, granting sprites reprieve, before they'd return to Earth alive. Pepe heard the crack of the chain that Odie broke. "It's about time…", he whispered, and inhaled a mighty toke. He exhaled a critter made of smoke, who entered the S.S. Dream, the ship that Pepe piloted, from sea to shining sea. The S.S. Dream continued, from the waters onto land, transforming from a steamboat, to a golden train dripping sand.
Odie slowly sprint towards the abandoned potato shack, when a ghost encroached upon him, from beyond the burlap sacks. Elumo the Ghost, who traveled solely via smoke, had arisen from a well, and his form began to grow. A misty dew began to steam, from Odie as he ran, which began to take a sultry form, that embraced the smokey man… The chill returned to Odie, as Elumo reached out his hand, delivering to Odie, a golden grain of sand…
"Lo and behold the Prophecy O, a technology of the toad Gale…" Elumo spoke honestly, as the he and Eluma drifted away ominously… Odie slowed his run, now taking only tiny steps, for Odie was winded and out of breath. He observed the golden spec of sand, which made it grow into a strand. He pinched the ends when it unrolled, revealing a small golden scroll.
Within it displayed, an I within an O, that became a T and then an A. The symbols began to disappear, but as Odie blinked, so wrote the seer;
"Nothing becomes something, it's in its very nature," when the paper made a feather, which disappeared into the aether. "Creation is the dharma, of the formless living substance," when the paper made an inkwell, that was consumed by an airborne fungus. "Love's denial of expression, is the eternal tragedy," when Odie eyes began to tear, thinking this really speaks to me. "Destiny's a page unwritten, if only you would just…" When the prophecy was gone, whisked away, by a gust.
A high pitched voice cried out from the abandoned shack's well, "Help me, please! I'm chained to a peg, down here in HELL!" Odie turned to the potato shack, and remembered what Ohm said… But he called out instead, "Have you tried yanking your leg?" "It's broken…" she cried, and this time, Odie thought before he replied… "You're leg or the peg?" to which she then begged, "Is there someone else I could talk to instead?"
The Matriarch Sally in her supernal abode, watched her daughter cry out from the infernal Unknown… "Ahhh!" she cried, "they're burning us alive!" echoed through the worlds above, below, and throughout time.
Odie looked at Ohm, and shrugged. "What do you think we should do?" Odie turned to the Prophecy, and his understanding was renewed… "Time is unstoppable, to the apathetic perceiver. What do you need me to tell you, to go down the hole, and retrieve her?"
"I like that." Odie spoke, as he unknotted the well's rope. "That's THE SPIRIT!" chimed in Ohm, stuffing Odie's nonexistent ear lobe. He dropped down the rope, and a hand grabbed the lariat! It transformed into a lasso, which hitched onto a brim stone chariot…
Sweat dripped wet down the loaded potato's neck, A fire ignited in his soul, but it didn't change the fact that butter fingers can't hold. He stroked the rope until his fingers dried, they burned and burned, but the rope did rise! Eyes in the stone of the well stared as the youthful calf rose, The words "be thankful" echoed, grumbling out from down the hole.
"What did I do to deserve this…" she began mooing, tears welling in her eyes, Odie embraced the calf, reminding her, "Now, now… everything's alright…" The calf bucked a leg, and mashed it into the potato. He flew into a wall, exclaiming, "ay, yo…"
"Please… Help us… No more…" they all heard, from deep down the hole. Ohm peered into the Unknown, then looked up and said, "Woah…" Thousands of critters, of every shape and size, tried crawling up the chariot, with many thousands of eyes… Odie waddled over, and looked down the hole to see if there's anything he could do, but when he saw was an overgrown millipede, the potato enthused…
"Oh hell no…" Odie spoke, as he snatched O from the air. He sliced the rope with the Prophecy, "NOT TODAY!" he declared.
"What's down there…?" Odie asked, to the new addition to their crew, To which the calf replied… "I don't know… And I don't know you!" The calf began limping, wincing as she walked. "I don't understand…" whispered Odie, but she didn't want to talk.
Odie looked at Ohm, and Ohm looked at Odie. "She's probably just hungry… or lonely… or both. That place looked unholy." "Leave me alone!" She cried, aimlessly wandering outside. "…Mooom?" she whimpered, but she was up in the sky.
"Hold up… What do cows eat?" Odie went on to ask, "As far as I know, just wheat, corn, oats, grass…" Wait a minute thought Odie, I'm kind of like corn… Why didn't she didn't eat me… he wondered, unsure.
Odie watched her as she walked, as she limped into the horizon, He saw her dreaming of her doom, when before her came a lion. Belle, the young cow, was taken hold in the Lion's snout, who departed long before Odie could even open his mouth.
"She's gone…" Odie gasped, with his eyes in disarray, when Ohm whispered to him, "you did everything you could… it's okay…"
"What do you mean? I did nothing! I just sat here! Like a coward! I feel so powerless… That baby cow'll could get devoured!"
Ohm chimed in, "Odie, you can't always be in control! If you were, then you'd be responsible for everything, and everyone down that hole. Just imagine how a king feels, deciding who gets to die… In their darkest moments, begging the Sky, 'Why God? Why?' And what of their advisers, blackmailed and bribed? Threatened with horrors, if they don't misinform and lie? And what of their suitors, Odie, everyone has a master… To wallow in self pity, Odie, this is, to be a bastard."
Ohm took a breath, even though he didn't need to, "Do this instead, and bid stressing, adieu." Ohm stretched down to touch his toes, but lo and behold, as a ghost, he doesn't have those… "Like this?" Odie asked, and Ohm's transparent face began to laugh. Odie could barely reach his knees. He stretched his skin, which welcomed sunlight and a gentle breeze.
"Woah that feels good…" Odie exclaimed, reaching up, then back to his calves. "Alright, but… do you think that maybe thinking that way, has lead you to become detached?"
"Life's beautiful, Odie. You can only have so much control. You shouldn't let regret, lead you down that dark hole. Now is more important, than dwelling on the past, She's not your responsibility… this too shall pass."
Odie took a moment, to internalize his words, plopped into the sod, and absorbed fluid from the Earth. "You're right." Odie said, as he nodded back and forth his head. "I couldn't catch a lion if I tried." The two of them sighed. Defeated, Odie dropped his head down, and turned to the Boo. "Just be grateful that the prowler didn't come in and eat you…"
It's not about the lion, Odie thought to himself. It's the fact that I couldn't help. Odie took his hands and clasped them around his belly. How could I help anyone if I'm not even healthy? I can still feel the pounding of my heart… I just don't know where to start…
Then, from deep within the forest, a golden ghost emerged, being sucked into the well, when Odie felt a surge. The time is now, he thought, and although he wasn't fast, he was strong enough to grab the ghost, and that he firmly grasped. The ghost's head roared, 3 canines on display, one lion tooth was gone, the other 3 were gray.
I wouldn't wish that on anyone, the fate beneath the floor… Odie squeezed some more. As he held the spirit, the sun kissed the lion clear, to the point where his hands, passed through into a spear. The S.S. Dream arrived, and ushered forth the lion's glow. Pepe applauded Odie, "Ayyy, we thought he was lost!" And Odie looked on in awe, as the S.S. Dream took off.
Sally watched in silence, from the throne above the clouds, recording Odie's ways, and taking note of all his doubts. The door to the S.S. Dream transformed into a gate, signaling to Sally, that the S.S. Dream had changed.
A frantic slave of the Empress, descended from the sky, carried by two nimbus clouds, to an elysian field that filled with rye. This field was in a forest, that stretched across the planet, right beside a river, and a quarry full of granite.
She, Jodie, waded through the rye, making her way into the forest, whereupon she met with Judas, a liana vine who was once a hornet. Jodie was charged with negativity, this was clear to Judas, but she always brought him milk and honey, so he forgave her grave imprudence.
"She's always working us, I can't take it! I had to leave…" Jodie complained to Judas as he punched an enormous tree. "Jodie, you know, she's quite a busy queen… how could anyone survive, the responsibility, of being free…?" Judas asked sarcastically…. He submerged himself into a ravine, rejuvenating his cells, before preparing hibiscus honey meed…
She also had a task, to distribute Sally's milk, and though she didn't want to, this was the Empress' will. The slave dispersed Sally's milk among several different factories, using her sapphire amulet, to navigate aquatic realities. Folks who drank her milk, all worshipped her emphatically… Jodie thought to herself, she's gonna be so mad at me…
Sally's milk was unique, there was a magic, that she practiced, and all those drank it, would slowly sink into a slaving kind of madness… The slaves were everywhere, beneath the Earth, above the Sky, and though Jodie managed to break the curse, she remained a slave to spy. She didn't have the numbers, or the means for revolution, but indeed she had a plan, to free the planet from disillusion.
"Face it Odie, you're fat. There's no shame in admitting that." Odie threw the Prophecy, feeling shamed and disgraced, but a gust of wind blew O right back at Odie's face.
"Take this place, and make it yours, taking care, shan't be a chore." Odie gripped his belly, and conceded O was right, with such a squishy tummy, he'd be doomed in a real fight.
"Take a walk, just look around, remove what need not be, once it's well and clean, we'll organize, thoroughly." Scattered throughout the rooms, heirlooms and dusty books, cutlery, burlap sacks, clothes and tools to cook.
"Every time you leave a space, make sure it ends up better, how could you not succeed, if the world becomes your debtor?"
With great loathing, Odie took his first step, when O delivered another message, before Odie could even take a breath. "Start with intention, and bring that feeling before the first dimension." Odie visualized a wondrous potato shack, free of debris, trash and overgrown grass.
"Once the spirit is deep and unconscious, take action with certainty, the Certain Way is flawless." He cut the grass with the Prophecy, but O was a finicky tool, after just a couple slices, the wind would take it from the fool.
O and Odie walked past the well, into the shack, and stopped at a bookshelf. The dusty books all looked familiar, they seemed to call for him. The Tales From Within, huh, looks just like The Tail of Jinn.
The Prophecy gleamed a ferocious gold, with a glossy trim bordering, the wisdom of old. Odie's focus upgraded in degree, but continued to taper, as he fatigued. As he completed more tasks, he noticed the scent of something terribly bad, contrasting the wondrous aroma of the freshly cut grass.
He discovered it's origin, from deep down the well, and with all of his might, he lifted a boulder to cover the smell. Tired and sweaty, after many weeks of labor, he plopped in the sod, contemplating the nature of the aether.
"It may not be much, but daily maintenance is key, creation is amazing, but discipline will hone your chi." I don't know what that is thought Odie, there's so much to learn, "How exciting…" whispered Ohm, because for life is what he yearned.
Odie was sincerely grateful. This positive mental attitude was inescapable. As Odie thanked the Prophecy O, the once ungrateful cow limped towards the potato.
"I'm sorry about before. I've never known kindness like that before… I thought you'd hold saving me over my head, but not after what this ghost said…"
Elumo of the Mist materialized before their eyes, clothed in gold, blue and white, dawning the dress of a beautiful bride. Elumo of the Smoke, took form above the well, sporting a matte black tuxedo, hosting a luxurious smell.
A shrewdness of apes, who appeared quite bored, with hors d'oeuvres in hand, began handing out forks. A troop of gorillas, who were clearly entertained, with props in hand, began setting a stage. A clowder of cats, too cool to help, made their way to the shack, and brushed themselves against the well. A pack of dogs, dirty as can be, rolled around in the sod, before licking Odie.
A knot of toads, who were particularly rude, disrespected the wait staff, but tipped them more than they were expected to. An army of frogs, remained distant, from the rude knot of toads, for they didn't get along, they were mutually loathed. A raft of king penguins, came to land from the stream, when a waddle of emperor penguins, watched on from the S.S. Dream.
Sally and Pepe, stepped down from the steamboat, hounded by paparazzi, while they waved at the people. Pookas appeared and sat on both sides of the aisle, with darkness in their hearts, bearing devious smiles. Critters made of flowers began flooding the aisles with fragrant aromas, while fruits and vegetables took their seats, adorning decadent togas.
Mushrooms arrived, including chaga, and reishi, the magic ones too, as well as cordyceps, amanita and porcini. Odie looked in amazement, upon the developing setting, "What's happening Ohm?" to which he replied, "It's a wedding!"
Life of every creed and kind, descended upon the shack, many merry, drinking wine, playing games, and sharing laughs. Others arrived, who appeared to be full of anger, "Stay close…" spoke O, the prophetic piece of paper.
A gentle zephyr graced the refurbished potato shack, and like magic, Gale appeared, with an amethyst necklace, and white hat. "Please take your seats, it's time to begin," spoke Gale, the Deacon of the Wind.
All life at the wedding, began to take humanoid form, but no one seemed to notice, except Odie, who was floored. Elumo and Eluma spoke their vows, and proceeded to kiss, becoming one under God, the unity of smoke and mist.
Together they departed, dissipating into what's next, when a front row pooka charged the stage, and reached for Gale's neck. He snatched Gale's necklace, and was off with the wind. Odie watched in great horror, as a tornado was summoned before him.
As Odie was flung from the scene, a hand grabbed hold of him, on the S.S. Dream… "He isn't ready, Pepe, but then again, no one ever is…" Gale's voiced echoed, before jumping off the ship.
The S.S. Dream was full of critters, of every shape and size, some that looked familiar, but most Odie didn't recognize. "Ohm?" Odie asked, looking around on the deck, which transformed into a boxcar. He couldn't find his friend.
"Where am I?" he asked an ape, a dog, and walking tree, when Pepe turned his back, and shouted, "The S.S. Dream!" No one else responded, but many jumped and disappeared, to which Odie then replied, "Yeah, well, I don't like it here…!"
He hurried over to Pepe, when the boxcar became a bridge, stretching further out, boggling Odie's wits. "There's not need to hurry, when you don't know where your going, just slow down, Brodie, no harm in going slowly…"
Pepe toked his pipe, and proceeded to raise his reigns, whipped them down powerfully, when the S.S. Dream began to change. The moving bridge became a train, pulled by two pegasi, who shoutout out Pepe, "just say the word!" And he said, "Fly!"
The S.S. Dream took to the skies, and Odie implored, "Why?" "There's a nice view from up there… and time slows down, the faster we go…" Pepe dropped the reigns, and exhaled a bit of smoke.
"I don't think it's a nice view at all… There's something wrong here."
Thinking thoughts, his mind had lots, connecting dots, others could not. The Tail of Jinn spoke of diamonds, powering the world's dreams…
"What are these people doing here?" Odie frantically ran around. "There's spirits being yolked, into a room I haven't found…?"
"Don't wish for peace on Earth, that'll just send everyone to Hell…" That necklace on the priestess… that voice from down the well…
"You know what you need, Odie? You need my help."
"Jewels, I want jewels, gems of every kind… Turquoise… Topaz… Tourmaline, they're all divine! Red ones… orange… yellow… and green… Blues ones… purple… diamonds, and aquamarine! Sapphires, rubies, emeralds, peridots, Jades, opals, amethyst, every precious rock!"
All along the way, from the entrance to the exit, There were vices all at play, denying loves expression. "Poverty abound, yet opulence surrounds, How could it be, that this is next, unless it's hell I've found?"
"From everything I've read, these enrich body, mind and soul!" "Even if it's psychosomatic, the placebo will save your soul!"
Odie second guessed himself, "Why would I need your help?" There was an odd silence, proceeded by roaring laughter. "I'm not a know it all, Odie! I'm the Emperor of Earth's After!"
Odie mind released a vine, as he focused on the skylines crease. It came from the horizon and grabbed his face with velocity. Odie was ushered off the train, smashed into his home, falling flat into the sod, greeted by Ohm.
Odie took a deep breathe, in an attempt to tame his mind, for so much had happened, in such a short period of time.
"For years I was in that sod, in a deep depressive slump, I couldn't articulate these thoughts, so I didn't tell anyone. I hid my pain from my parents, and when our place burned down, I used it to escape these feelings, of fear, uncertainty and doubt. You were there Ohm, you died in that fire, I can tell by how you make me feel, the way that you inspire. Don't you remember, running around, on all fours as a hound? You were my dog, Ohm, and you're still my best friend now."
Ohm looked at Odie, and vividly remembered, "Of all the potatoes I've had, you were the best at adventure…" A warm feeling came over Odie, starring at the ghost of his old puppy, as he absorbed the sun's rays, grateful for his buddy.
The Wind began to whistle, blowing extremely hard, knocking Odie down, throwing him into the yard. He stuck his hands into this sod, and asked Ohm, "Have you seen O?" To which the Boo replied, "I'd assume he's where the wind blows…"
An eerie silence swept the field, as though the shack had been veiled, when Odie looked into the forest, and saw a freshly cut trail. "No more self pity Ohm… we've gotta go find O…" but as he loosed his grip, so did the Wind's strength grow.
"I skimmed my old books… when I refurbished this place…" Odie spoke to the Wind, rushing directly at his face. "Resistance makes me stronger… You're making a mistake…" Odie spoke as he stepped onward, unfazed by the Wind's strength.
Ohm went underground, silent beneath Odie, for Wind didn't bother him, he was neither physical, misty or smokey. The whistle became a roar, so Odie dropped to all fours, and because to crawl towards the dense forest, contracting his core.
Once Odie was deep enough into the forest, he got out of the dirt, and was greeted by a cow, who seemed to have a growth spurt. "So… I guess, he didn't eat you?" Odie posited the cow, "No, he's vegan, and I'm Belle, we've actually become pals."
The lion yawned, taking an enormous gasp, tilting the trees, as well as the grass. The enormous yawn altered the wind's flow, and from deeper in the forest, inward floated O. "Here the trees have control, over where the wind blows…" Wrote the Prophecy O, before he drifted beyond a grove.
Right beyond the grove, was a swampy green lake, Odie looked around, to make sure the coast was safe. The scene serene and green, was pleasant Odie deemed. He stood before a tiny a boat, and pushed it off to sea.
The journey seemed to flow as fluid as a lucid dream. There was a point, where the setting changed, and the peaceful ambiance, became a bit deranged. He took its oars and churned them forward, passing through the ghastly borders… Filled with filth, the pond was still, but time, saw that, the trees would wilt…
With each pull, he felt a tilt, he thread the water, as if it were precious silk. Smoke was rising in the horizon, mesmerizing faces could be seen in it, smiling… O was always just out of reach, but Odie basked in awe, of the world unseen.
His mind went in all directions, as the air became quite chilly, when he came across a frog, who sat silent upon a lily.
"Why are you here?" asked the frog, neutral as can be, and Odie O responded, "At first I was looking for O… but now I don't know…" Truly enamored by the scene before his eyes, Odie could see enormous lights, one from the left, the other right.
"Let me put it another way. What is it that you want?" The frog asked nonchalant. I remember; I need jewels, the potato silently thought.
"If it's riches that you seek, you'd best do more than take a seat…" When the frog raised a light, which hung upon a leek. "Well, it's not riches for the sake of riches… You see, it's something…" to which the frog responded, "You need say nothing more. I meant not to offend, but you'd best do best to remember, what you want, all the time, before you're returned to sender…"
The light upon his leek, flashed and disappeared, along with him and his lily, to which Odie thought, weird…
He took out the papers that he'd stuffed in his sack. He looked around for Ohm and O, who hid behind his back. Odie took a deep breath, and closed his eyes, what do I want? he asked his mind.
Diamonds, emeralds, rubies, sapphires… But how do I get these precious desires? It can't be easy, nothing worth it ever is, I have to work for it. That's it. I know not the goblin's motives, but he has something I like… Perhaps he know where I can find more… Or the priestess might…
I have to find them… but where do I begin? One fell off the S.S. Dream, the other fast as the Wind…
"You don't know where to start, but your journey's just begun… Take in as much as you can, for you're supported by the Sun…"
The prophecy gleamed, with all his might, before the land ahead was illuminated, by the Sun's magnificent light. Just as quick as the light was shown, the wind took the Prophecy O.
